Bahia concluded the sowing of cotton for the 2025/26 crop last Wednesday (25). The planted area remained stable compared to the previous cycle, with approximately 414 thousand hectares. The initial estimate points to a production of 815 thousand tons of processed cotton. The projected productivity reaches 1.968 kilos of lint per hectare.

Irrigated cotton production increased by almost 20% compared to the previous cycle, reaching 170 hectares. The technology now occupies 40,7% of the cultivated area in the state. Bahia leads irrigated cotton farming in the country.

According to the Bahia Cotton Producers Association, the expansion of supplemental irrigation, called "rescue irrigation," is part of the producers' strategy to mitigate climate risks. This practice allows for targeted interventions during the crop's development phases and increases yield stability.

"Crop management is progressing well and the weather remains favorable so far. It is still too early to say for sure about productivity and production, but the outlook is positive," says the organization's president, Alessandra Zanotto Costa.

With planting completed, the sector focuses its efforts on technical management and phytosanitary monitoring. The phytosanitary program teams intensify pest and disease control. Proper management in the early stages contributes to the health and successful establishment of the plants.
