Cotton harvest is surprising in terms of productivity

Most of the country has open skies and no rain forecast, with the only exception being the coastal strip of Bahia and the northwest of the North region. Therefore, temperatures rise rapidly throughout the day, and in many places, maximum temperatures will be higher than the average for that time of year.

All field work, such as harvesting and cultural treatments, is being carried out without major disruption. It is worth mentioning that the further the cotton harvest progresses in both Mato Grosso and Bahia, the more it is observed that the productivity averages are truly magnificent, surpassing, in some cases, the averages of the past harvest.

Crop situation 

Regarding safrinha corn, there is already a lot of discrepancy between one area and another. While some producers manage to achieve averages above 120 bags per hectare, others do not reach 85 bags per hectare, often in the same micro-region. Which will lead Brazil to harvest a corn crop of around 55 to 57 million tons.

The big problem is, again, with the wheat crop. Trigger farmers in the north and northwest of Paraná are suffering losses in their crops due to the strong drought that has been hitting these locations in recent weeks, in addition, in some regions of Rio Grande do Sul, the rains are unrelenting. For sugar cane and coffee, the conditions, even if dry, are favoring the rapid advancement of the harvest, as well as benefiting the floral induction of coffee and the concentration of ATR (Total Recoverable Sugars) in the cane.

However, starting tomorrow, Friday (20), the advance of a cold front through Rio Grande do Sul will change the weather, returning to an unstable and rainy condition until Sunday (22). This system is expected to advance only over parts of Santa Catarina, so the rest of Brazil will continue to experience dry weather and no rain forecast. However, next week, a new cold front will advance over the South and may be strong enough to cause rain also over the producing areas of Paraná, São Paulo and southern Mato Grosso do Sul. However, this instability will be of low intensity.
