Responsible for the annual receipt and storage of around 1,2 million tons of grains – mainly soy, wheat, corn, barley, oats and canola – from Rio Grande do Sul, Cotribá begins 2023 even more prepared to meet the demand of more than 8 thousand members. The cooperative invested R$160 million to expand storage capacity, which now totals 12,7 million bags, representing a total increase of 19%. The majority of the investments were allocated to the acquisition of four new grain receiving units - two in Ibirubá and two in Santana do Livramento - and the expansion of three others already operated by Cotribá in the State in Encruzilhada do Sul, Cachoeira do Sul and Pantano Grande .
“Storage has always been one of the main challenges in agribusiness and if we want to grow, we have to have a structure ready to receive the harvest”, says the vice-president of Cotribá, Enio Nascimento.
The year 2023 will also be marked by the completion, in the second half of the year, of the first phase of the new feed factory in Ibirubá, which will increase the cooperative's annual feed production capacity from 100 thousand to 300 thousand tons. 170 new jobs are planned, in a total investment of R$ 150 million, for the production of feed for dairy and beef cattle, pigs, poultry, horses, sheep and mineral supplements. The unit is fully automated and will have robotic systems for bagging and shipping. Cotribá already has two feed factories, in Ibirubá and Tapera, and is the largest producer of feed for dairy cattle in the State.
“The cooperative is growing in all the areas it operates. We invested a lot in 2022, we are in the middle of building the feed factory. The State has a lot to contribute to food production, and Cotribá participates in this growth process,” says president Celso Leomar Krug.
With its financial result, Cotribá was included, for the second consecutive year, in the Ranking published by Revista Ajante among the 500 largest companies in the South region and among the 100 largest companies in Rio Grande do Sul. By advancing 63 positions, it ranked 83rd among the 500 largest companies in the South and rose 25 positions in the state ranking, reaching 36th place among companies in RS.
The cooperative recorded net revenue of R$3,51 billion in 2021, an increase of 133,38% over the previous year's result, and a net profit of R$84,31 million. Net worth reached R$199,6 million and 2021 was considered the best year in its history.
Cotribá celebrates 112 years in 2023 and in addition to receiving, storing, producing and selling grains, it operates in other segments such as inputs, feed factories, veterinary pharmacy, parts section, fuel resale, supermarkets, department stores and centers commercial.
