The 2024/25 corn grain harvest in the state of Rio Grande do Sul is expected to exceed 4,7 million tons, an increase of 6,1% compared to the previous year. The growth is attributed to the start of planting in the agricultural zoning, combined with favorable weather conditions in September and October, good management practices and the use of irrigation. The survey was released by Emater/RS.
The data presented reveal that the state is expected to harvest 28.050.178 tons of grains in 2024/25, in a cultivated area of 8.435.197 hectares.
The survey, carried out between February 16 and 28, 2025 by the institution's rural extension workers, estimates an increase in corn productivity, which reached 6.866 kilos per hectare, an increase of 21,6% compared to the previous harvest. The total area dedicated to corn grain was 696.587 hectares.
Soybeans, the state's main crop, saw a small increase in cultivated area, but suffered a significant reduction in production. The soybean area expanded by 0,3%, occupying more than 6,7 million hectares. However, estimated production fell by 17,4% due to unfavorable weather conditions. The estimate is 15.072.765 tons of soybeans, with an average productivity of 2.240 kg/ha, a drop of 20,3% compared to the previous harvest.
Other crops were also highlighted in the survey. Irrigated rice occupies an area of 970.194 hectares, with an estimated production of over 8,12 million tons.
The first harvest beans were cultivated on 27.149 hectares, with an estimated production of 49,9 thousand tons. The production of beans in the second harvest should be 18.196 tons, with a 46,5% drop in the cultivated area.
