Corn production 1st harvest should reach 2,4 million tons in Bahia

With the first corn harvest in Bahia completed, the National Supply Company (Conab) estimates that grain production reached around 1,9 million tons – observing an increase of 6,4% compared to the last harvest. This increase is linked to the good growth in planted area in relation to the last cycle, as average productivity decreased by 10,9%, closing at 4,4 thousand kg/ha. The information comes from the 11th Survey of the 2020/2021 Grain Harvest, published this Tuesday (10/08) by Conab.

It is estimated that 11% of the cultivated area (432 thousand hectares) was by small producers, obtaining a productivity of 840 kg/ha, the other 89% is under the care of large and medium producers, obtaining a productivity of 10.800 kg/ha. The grains have excellent qualities, and the production supplies the wholesale and livestock market in Bahia and other states in the Northeast region, in addition to some lots being exported. Most of the harvested production is readily sold, with little volume stored.

Total corn 

Total corn production in Bahia will be 2,4 million tons – a reduction of 3,2% compared to the previous harvest. The total cultivated area will be 693,8 thousand hectares, indicating a productivity of 3,4 thousand kg/ha (17,3% lower than that observed in the previous cycle, mainly due to water scarcity).
