Due to the good weather conditions, this week, the corn harvest increased by 4%, with many producers accelerating this phase, as, with the start and intensification of the soybean harvest, priority is directed to this legume. According to the Economic Report, prepared by Emater/RS-Ascar, productivity continues to demonstrate excellent averages.
With a good harvest rate, influenced by the weather, the rice harvest advances, reaching 18% of the planted area. Initial yields are confirming excellent crop yields, many well above 7 t/ha.
The first bean harvest is coming to an end, with only 1% of the planted area remaining. The areas that were not affected by the drought have maintained good productivity and quality. The 2nd harvest, also called the second crop, evolves very well, benefiting from the weather conditions at the beginning of development. With 2% of the estimated area to be implemented still missing, 10% are already in flowering, a phase with the greatest need for water, and which defines the productive potential of the crop.
The first soybean harvested areas show very good productivity and commercial quality, even exceeding the average estimate for RS, for this harvest, which is 2.641 kg/ha. Most soybean farmers are removing the product from the fields and depositing it in warehouses, waiting for a better definition of the market to offer. Contrary to the previous week, this week, the average value of a 60 kg bag of soybeans increased by 0,87%, reaching R$ 43,88, a value already considered consistent and being 11,14% above the historical average for the month.
High temperatures have caused problems in the development of vegetable crops, especially leafy vegetables. Excess humidity, with the peculiar swelter of the season, has led to the emergence of diseases and the depreciation of crops, with a decrease in supply and an increase in consumer prices.
The rise in watermelon prices occurs at a time when supply is already reduced and fruit from the afternoon harvest, which is currently considered to be of better quality, is beginning to enter. The main supplying municipalities are Bagé, Rosário do Sul and Encruzilhada do Sul.
In Campos de Cima da Serra, the apple harvest, Gala variety, one of the main varieties in the region, is still going strong, with fruits of excellent color and flavor. Many orchards were hit by hail, maintaining fruits with the characteristics described above, but with physical deformations due to the impact of the stones. Even so, they are being sold at R$0,08 per kilo for industry and R$0,15 for the less demanding fresh market. The average price is negotiated at R$0,50/kg.
The price survey carried out in the main marketing areas recorded a small increase in the value of live cattle, as well as fat cows. The appreciation of live cattle was 0,41%, going from R$3,25 to R$3,27 per live kg. Fat cows went from R$2,87 per live kg to R$2,89, an increase of 0,62%. Rain remains scarce in the Campanha region and part of the South Zone of the State, a fact that has contributed to a smaller supply of animals suitable for slaughter, with a consequent increase in the amount paid to livestock farmers. To further worsen the situation in regions affected by the lack of rain, the occurrence of ticks and horn flies remains high. This, combined with poor nutrition, increases weight loss and ends up causing greater weakness in the animals.
