Corn exports in the first half grow 85,7% compared to the same period in 2021

The movement is related to China's difficulty in internalizing the approximately 10 million tons of grain that were normally brought from Ukraine, in addition to the incidence of pests in crops that the Asian country has faced.

Between January and July 2022, growth of 85,7% was observed when comparing the accumulated volume of external corn sales in the same period of the previous year. The information was released this Friday (19/08), in the August edition of the Logistics Bulletin of the National Supply Company (Conab).

The movement is related to China's difficulty in internalizing the approximately 10 million tons of grain that were normally brought from Ukraine, in addition to the incidence of pests in crops that the Asian country has faced. Furthermore, due to adverse weather conditions, corn production estimates in Europe were reduced by almost five million tons, indicating that demand for the Brazilian product is expected to increase. Therefore, it is estimated that corn prices will rise in both the domestic and international markets.

In the case of soybeans, Brazilian exports reached 60,54 million tons, a drop of 8,5% compared to the 66,20 million tons exported in the same period of 2021. The reduction is justified by the reduction in the harvest itself, combined with the international situation.

New record in fertilizer imports

The volume of fertilizers imported by Brazil in July surpassed that of the previous month, setting yet another record for monthly internalization. The accumulated result for the first half of the year registered an increase of 15,45% compared to the same period last year.

The grain freight market routes in Piauí are now being analyzed by Conab. The assessment is part of the actions to improve sector information collected by the state-owned company and becomes part of the Logistics Bulletin prepared by the Company. In Piauí, the main grain flow route is the one that connects the cerrado region to the Port of Itaqui, in the state of Maranhão. The concentration of freight companies in the state is in the cities of Bom Jesus and Uruçuí. As for freight prices, the variation occurs mainly due to the distance between the farms and the cities where the freight originates.
