Coffee prices remain low for most of 2019
On the other hand, prices for Arabica and Robusta coffees rose sharply in the last months of the year
Corn continues to be developed throughout the State, with the majority of crops (40%) in the grain filling phase. In the regions of Santa Rosa and Frederico Westphalen, respectively, 3% and 2% of the areas have already been harvested. According to the Conjunctural Information, released by Emater/RS-Ascar, in agreement with the State Secretariat of Agriculture, Livestock and Rural Development (Seapdr), the implementation of corn cultivation in RS reached 94% of the area of 777.442 hectares of planting intention in the State. Currently, 30% of crops are in the vegetative development phase, 19% in flowering, 40% in grain filling and 11% in maturation. The areas being implemented are located in the Bagé and Pelotas regions.
In general, corn crops present good development, good appearance and a low rate of pest attacks and disease incidence. In the Caxias do Sul region, the severe water deficit that occurred in the first half of December affected the yield of crops in the flowering phase. At Frederico Westphalen, the crop continues to look good, despite some areas showing symptoms of water stress. In the Emater/RS-Ascar de Ijuí Region, 98% of the area planned for the harvest is sown and the crop has shown variation in productive potential due to the variability in the volume of rainfall that occurred in the region. Areas cultivated with irrigation and those where there has been rain with an excellent volume of precipitation have helped to minimize the impacts of reduced productivity in the region.
In the Emater/RS-Ascar de Soledade region, 83% of the corn area is sown, with 30% of these crops in vegetative development, 10% in flowering and 60% in grain filling. In general, in areas where rainfall has been irregular and with low volumes, productivity losses have already been recorded, especially in crops in which the current phase is grain filling. The most significant losses occur in the municipalities of Rio Pardo, Pantano Grande and Encruzilhada do Sul, where there has been no rain over the last few weeks.
Soybean planting in RS reached 97% of the area planned for the harvest of 5.978.967 hectares. Of the crops with the crop, 91% are in the vegetative development phase and 9% are in flowering. In the Emater/RS-Ascar de Ijuí Region, the farming areas located to the North, which correspond to a third of the cultivated area in the region, remain well developed as a result of rainfall favorable to the crop. In other areas of the Region, formed by Coredes Noroeste Colonial and Alto Jacuí, crops face less rainfall, a situation that has compromised the good development of the crop.
The crop in RS is implemented in 99% of the area of 944.549 hectares. Favorable weather in all regions allowed progress in the planting planned for the harvest, in addition to favoring the development of the crop. Of the planted crops, 93% are in the vegetative development phase and 7% are already in flowering. In the Bagé Region, crops are 100% in germination and vegetative development. Producers continue to carry out cultural treatments to control weeds, top dressing and irrigation management. In general, the crops look good.
The implementation of the crop in RS reached 95% of the planned area. Currently, 26% of crops are in vegetative development, 18% in flowering, 23% in grain filling, 20% of them in maturation and 13% have already been harvested. In the Emater/RS-Ascar region of Frederico Westphalen, 30% of the crops are in the grain filling phase, 20% are maturing and 50% have already been harvested. In general, the crop has a good stand and producers have been applying top dressing. In the Santa Rosa region, the crops already harvested showed excellent grain quality and an average productivity of 1.200 kilos per hectare.
In the Serra region, early varieties are already harvested. The harvest of Fortune, the second variety in cultivated area and volume produced, is underway. The fruits are of reasonable size and good color. The crop presents little production in the current harvest, a consequence of the weather conditions that occurred from September to November, a period with many rainy days and lack of solar radiation, which affected flowering, fertilization and fruit setting. The average price received for the product on the property is R$3,50/kg.
In Paim Filho, in the Northeast region of the state, producers continue harvesting and marketing the fruits. The early varieties are heading towards the end of the harvest, scheduled to end in the first half of January. For late varieties, the harvest is expected to begin after the first half of January. Producers continue to monitor pests and diseases and apply baits for fruit flies, with a view to fruit maturation and harvesting.
Early varieties from Niágara continue to mature in some municipalities in the Emater/RS-Ascar de Passo Fundo region. The harvest is starting in small quantities and should gradually increase from next week. Producers monitor pests and diseases, as well as phytosanitary treatments and cultural treatments.
