Cascudinho is a cause for concern in the Midwest
In the last harvest, reported losses reached 30% in infested areas
The Coprossel Cooperative, headquartered in Laranjeiras do Sul (PR), reaffirms its role in regional development. In December, it began distributing more than R$12 million in advance of surplus earnings for 2024, with an expected amount of over R$15 million by the end of the year, with the payment of bonuses called Guarantee of Surplus Earnings to Cooperative Members. This initiative directly benefits the communities of Laranjeiras do Sul, Rio Bonito do Iguaçu, Porto Barreiro, Virmond and Nova Laranjeiras, strengthening the local economy and creating new opportunities.
The cooperative currently has 1.870 members and the support of 400 employees, who together promote the sustainable development of the region. Coprossel's president, Paulo Pinto de Oliveira Filho, highlighted the positive impact of the cooperative model on the regional quality of life: "The cooperative is not just for serving producers, it benefits the entire region. Where there is strong cooperativism, we have more development, better HDI and progress. Even in a challenging year, we were able to deliver results that are the result of the participation and loyalty of our members."
Coprossel is expanding its infrastructure and storage capacity to keep up with the increase in local productivity and to better serve its members and customers. Some investments have been made and others are being executed by the cooperative:
- Expansion of storage capacity, reducing losses and improving the flow of harvest receipts;
- Modernization of units, such as in Rio Bonito do Iguaçu and Porto Barreiro, with new dryers, silos and structure with new technologies;
- Industrial Complex in Laranjeiras do Sul, with capacity to store 1 million bags (Mill) and expansion of the Seed Processing Industry, with a new 5 m² cold chamber;
- New unit in Cantagalo, a project worth around R$45 million that will include all Coprossel products and services such as store, offices, grain reception and technical support.
These actions, combined with the strong work of the Technical Department, have transformed the region's productivity, which has gone from around 100 bags of soybeans per alqueire to production that exceeds 200 bags/alq. This evolution directly reflects the technologies employed, associated with the serious work of employees and cooperative members. "We are investing to meet the new demands of producers, with technologies that increase efficiency and reduce costs. Our goal is to ensure sustainable growth and continuous development of the region", emphasized the president of the cooperative Paulo Pinto de Oliveira Filho.
The president also highlighted the importance of consuming regional products to strengthen the local economy. "We focus on diversification, and quality is the center of everything we produce. Products such as seeds, wheat flour, feed, mineral salt and dairy products not only guarantee high quality, but also encourage local producers and promote community development. Every real spent here stays and generates more wealth for everyone."
Despite the challenges faced in 2024, Coprossel maintains an optimistic outlook for 2025, investing in a robust harvest and advancing its strategic planning, with new investments and opportunities. The cooperative remains a reference in Agro and cooperativism, reinforcing its commitment to wealth generation and sustainable development in the region.
