As in the previous harvest, the area dedicated to the production of wheat seeds at Copercampos will increase. The appreciation of culture and the opportunities in the seed market please the cooperative's members, who have promoted culture in their region of operation.
In the 2022 harvest, the cooperative's wheat seed production will be 9,2 thousand hectares, compared to 7,1 thousand hectares in the 2021 harvest. The increase in area is associated with the interest of producers from other municipalities in investing in the crop.
“We are expanding the wheat seed production area in the municipalities of Caçador, Curitibanos and Fraiburgo, in Santa Catarina, and also in the municipalities of Rio Grande do Sul. This 30% increase in the registration of seed fields follows the trend of increasing wheat production area in our region. The cereal is valued, the market is booming and producers are seeing good opportunities with the crop”, highlights the Technical Assistance Manager, Agronomist Fabrício Jardim Hennigen.
Last harvest, Copercampos produced 284 thousand bags of wheat seeds, an all-time record for the cooperative. For this harvest, the expectation is to produce 350 thousand bags of cereal seeds.
In addition to wheat, Copercampos will be producing seeds of white oats, black oats, triticale, buckwheat and rye in this winter harvest.
