The Regional Coffee Growers Cooperative in Guaxupé, today with more than 18 thousand associated producers, will transfer more than R$56 million to its members. The distribution comes from leftovers from the 2022 balance sheet, which also shows results of around R$ 277,3 million and revenue of R$ 10,1 billion achieved last year. The numbers were presented on March 31, 2023, at an ordinary general meeting held at Cooxupé's headquarters, in Guaxupé, South of Minas Gerais.
The investments made in 2022 are also highlights of the balance sheet. R$ 113,2 million were invested in the assets of cooperative members, with the opening of a center in Manhuaçu, renovations and expansions in the centers of Monte Santo de Minas and São Pedro da União and also in the Japy Complex, in addition to the inauguration of the new headquarters of SMC Specialty Coffees. This amount invested is the largest in the history of the cooperative.
The president of Cooxupé, Carlos Augusto Rodrigues de Melo, highlighted the results as excellent, after highlighting the main challenges that occurred last year, especially in shipments due to logistical issues, crop failure, falling prices and interest rates. .
“Exports account for 80% of our activities and if the coffee does not reach international buyers, the cooperative does not receive resources. Even in the face of all the challenges, we managed to obtain excellent results in investments, which allowed us to distribute this to the cooperative members who participated in Cooxupé's businesses in 2022”, says Melo.
In 2022, Cooxupé shipped 6,8 million bags of Arabica coffee to the domestic and foreign markets. Exports to customers in 50 countries totaled 5,6 million bags. In addition to commodity coffee, the cooperative -- through SMC Specialty Coffees -- shipped more than 154 bags of specialty coffee, of which more than 140 were sent to the foreign market.
In 2022, Cooxupé recorded receipt of 5 million bags of coffee from members and third parties. From its associated producers alone, the cooperative received 3,6 million bags. This volume of receipt, according to CONAB, represented 15% of the national production of Arabica coffee and 23% of the production of this type of coffee in the state of Minas Gerais.
The cooperative's members, 98,4% of whom are mini and small producers who represent family farming, produced 6,43 million bags of Arabica coffee last year in the South and Cerrado of Minas Gerais, on the average Mogian state. of São Paulo and in Matas de Minas.
Cooxupé Roasting, in operation for 38 years, recorded growth in sales in kilos of 14% compared to 2021. The manufacturing unit is responsible for the brands Evolutto, Prima Qualità, Prima Qualità Safra Especial, Gerações and Terrazza.
PRCI and FEC: more refunds to members
Still in 2022, Cooxupé promoted the refund of R$ 18,3 million to members coming from the Capital Restitution Program by Age and the Special Capitalization Fund.
In addition to celebrating 90 years of cooperativism, Cooxupé also celebrated last year the implementation of its own sustainability protocol, the Gerações Program.
“Our objective is for our producers to explore the world of sustainability, succession and increasingly better management within the property and the cooperative. It is an inclusive program, which brings together from small to large cooperatives, fully prepared and adapted according to the reality of our producers so that they advance in sustainability and, thus, gain more competitiveness in the face of the demands of the market and the coffee consumer. ”, concludes Melo.
