Cooperatives seek minimum price guarantee in the amount paid for a bag of wheat

This Wednesday (13), leaders from Sistema Ocergs, FecoAgro/RS, Sistema Ocepar and Cooperativa Coamo sent a letter to the federal government with the aim of seeking a solution for the payment of producers linked to the wheat market. According to data collected by the cooperatives, farmers are receiving around R$52,52 per 60 kg bag, which represents a loss of R$35,25 in the value of a bag of type 1 wheat and R$22,67 for the type 2 wheat. Survey is based on the minimum values ​​established for a 60 kg bag by the National Supply Company (Conab) in the 2023 harvest, which has an average value of R$87,77/bag for type 1 grain, and R$ $75,19/bag for type 2.

According to Darci Hartmann (in the photo), president of Sistema Ocergs, the agricultural products market is experiencing a period of falling prices. “In the last 12 months alone, we have had a drastic reduction, reaching levels below those determined by the Minimum Price Guarantee Program for the 2023 harvest”, he explains. 

 Along these lines, the entities request that agricultural policy instruments to guarantee minimum prices and harvest flow, mainly the Equalizing Price Paid to the Producer (Pepro) and the Premium for Product Flow (Pep), be applied, thus guaranteeing stability of food supply.

“We need the federal government to provide and direct resources to support the marketing of wheat producers, via Pepro and Pep, supporting the flow and ensuring the sustainability of the production chain. Only in this way will farmers be able to mitigate their losses”, he concludes.
