Lar Cooperativa Agroindustrial has just taken a significant step in its trajectory by launching the first edition of the Sustainability Report for the year 2023. The launch, which took place during Lar Day, brought together more than 300 guests, including representatives from the main banks, customers and strategic partners. The presentation of the report was made by Director-President Irineo da Costa Rodrigues, highlighting the cooperative's commitment to transparency, socio-environmental responsibility and exemplary governance.
The Lar Cooperativa Agroindustrial Sustainability Report is a detailed document that reflects the organization's ongoing efforts to promote sustainable practices throughout its operations. Following the reference to the Global Reporting Initiative (GRI), the report covers environmental, social and governance (ESG) aspects, offering a comprehensive view of the initiatives and results achieved throughout 2023.
Irineo da Costa Rodrigues, Chief Executive Officer, highlighted in his message the importance of this milestone. "It is with great satisfaction that we present our first sustainability report, a document that highlights our actions, commitments and continuous efforts towards social, environmental and economic responsibility. The year 2023 was challenging, full of events that required resilience and greater efficiency , leading us to seek process optimization", he stated.
Among the main advances, Rodrigues mentioned the creation of the Sustainability Committee, the implementation of projects that contribute to the reduction of greenhouse gas emissions and the promotion of responsible management of water resources. These efforts resulted in a 3,5% growth in the cooperative's revenue, reaching net revenue of R$21,8 billion.
The report is organized into three fundamental pillars: Environmental, Social and Governance. Each section details the initiatives and practices that Lar Cooperativa has adopted to contribute to sustainability in all of its operations.
Environmental Law: Lar Cooperativa implemented the Environmental Priority Program, focusing on sustainable agriculture and livestock, reducing greenhouse gas emissions and preserving biodiversity. The cooperative also invested in improving the energy matrix and in the efficient management of water resources and waste.
Social: commitment to people, culture and inclusion is a priority for Lar. The cooperative invested in training and culture, remuneration and benefits, in addition to promoting diversity and inclusion in the workplace. Health and safety at work also received special attention, ensuring a safe and healthy environment for all employees.
Governance: Ethical, integral and transparent management is one of Lar’s pillars. The report highlights advances in corporate governance, quality and innovation, reinforcing the commitment to sustainability and the creation of value for associates, employees, customers, suppliers and the community.
The Financial Administrative Superintendent, Cledio Roberto Marschall, reinforced that the Sustainability Report is an important means by which companies disclose their ESG actions. "As it contains relevant information, it must meet minimum standardization requirements and principles, a specific protocol - which is currently defined by the GRI. I also highlight that the information contained in the sustainability report received independent assurance carried out by ABNT (Brazilian Association of Technical Standards) . Lar has always acted intensely on these topics, and the report is an opportunity to describe in even more detail the main actions we developed with the company, the community and other parties involved", he concluded.
