The strategic planning of organizations has increasingly gained space in corporate meetings. This was the case of the meeting promoted by Cooperalfa in Chapecó (SC), through the Cooperative Development Advisory, which included the participation of consultants from FAU Agriculture & Environment to discuss the ESG concept.

According to the president of Cooperalfa, Romeo Bet, currently, companies dedicated to socio-environmental issues are among consumers' preferences and, therefore, it is necessary to be aware of market demands and opportunities.

At the opening of the meeting, Jean Budke, director of sustainability and ESG reporting strategy at FAU Consultoria, in Erechim (RS), presented the topic of good ESG practices - Environmental, Social and Governance. According to him, Cooperalfa already has social and environmental responsibility in its DNA, "you just need to identify, map the projects developed by the cooperative, which are aligned with the ESG concept, and communicate”, he said.

Genuir Parizotto, cooperative development advisor and coordinator of Cooperalfa's ESG Committee, also took advantage of the meeting to explain and clarify managers' doubts regarding the new sustainability concepts. For him, the next stage aims to hire a consultancy to assist in measuring indicators and identifying existing social, environmental and governance projects and actions at Cooperalfa.

As agreed at the meeting, the work plan, from identifying actions to defining what to communicate, must follow a sequence of actions: Planning and Management, Materiality, Indicators, Content and Design.

In addition to increasing market value in the long term, due to its care for the environment and people, the implementation of ESG practices can yield financial returns for the company, through the sale of carbon credits. The carbon credits market is an international environmental protection initiative that seeks to encourage companies and organizations to reduce their greenhouse gas emissions.

To understand the costs of implementing the plans, Cládis Jorge Furlanetto, 1st vice-president of Cooperalfa, asked participants about what really needs to be done in terms of ESG. "There are still many doubts about this", he highlighted, calling into question the effectiveness of the carbon credit program.
