Destructive banana disease is the subject of a webinar
Fusarium wilt, formerly called Panama disease, has historically been one of the most destructive diseases of bananas.
An incentive program with unprecedented differences was launched by Coopavel during the 2nd Winter Rural Show, held from September 1st to 3rd, in Cascavel, in the west of Paraná. “National triticulture is going through an important moment and, given the new technologies and stimulus actions, it has everything it needs to grow, offer income opportunities to producers and further strengthen national agribusiness”, says the president of Coopavel, Dilvo Grolli.
Coopavel Mais Trigo has three main pillars: zero-rate input financing, crop insurance and guaranteed minimum price of R$100 per bag for 2022. The wheat farmer's profit margin will be 60%. “There is nothing like this in Brazil, measures that demonstrate how much our cooperative trusts in the advancement of this culture”, says Dilvo.
With these actions, which will be adjusted each year/harvest, Coopavel intends to expand the cultivated area in its region of coverage (23 municipalities in the West and Southwest regions of Paraná) and double the reception of grain. Currently, Coopavel receives 3,5 million bags of wheat per year and the goal for 2026 is to reach 7 million. Coopavel Mais Trigo incentives seek to gradually increase the area dedicated to triticulture.
Currently, the cooperative's operating area allocates 130 thousand hectares for the activity, 10% of which is cultivated with the cereal throughout Paraná. The objective is, in six years, to increase from 130 thousand to 250 thousand hectares. “Wheat is no longer just a winter crop option, it is an interesting income alternative for the farmer”, says Dilvo Grolli. In Paraná alone, the winter fallow area is 2,7 million hectares and a large part of this could be occupied by triticulture.
Largest producer
Paraná is the largest national wheat producer. With 3,8 million tons in the current harvest, the state accounts for 52% of everything the country produces – it should reach 7 million tons in 2021. Even so, Brazil still needs to import 6 million tons. “One in every two breads consumed in our country is made with imported flour. In other words, we have a huge production potential ahead of us, which makes wheat the only crop that could double in size in a short time”, according to the president of Coopavel.
During the official launch of Coopavel Mais Trigo, at the official opening of the 2nd Winter Rural Show, on September 1st, Dilvo Grolli made a historic recovery and highlighted some of the most serious injustices committed against national triticulture. One of them came from a determination before 2000 that placed the government as an intermediary between the producer and the mill in the purchase and sale of cereal. Another was, in the Mercosur pact, to determine Argentina as the major grain producer in the bloc, discouraging Brazilian rural producers who gradually abandoned or reduced cultivation.
6 thousand kilos
Twenty high-performance varieties were presented in the three in-person days of the 2nd Rural Coopavel Winter Show. Some with potential productivity of 6 thousand kilos per hectare, or close to 250 bags per bushel. “In other words, we have technology available that, with the application of all the correct technical guidelines, can yield almost double the Argentine average, which is 3,4 kilos per hectare. We have, in view of highly productive varieties and new management knowledge, and with the conditions offered by Coopavel Mais Trigo, the best conditions ever seen to cultivate and increase the production of this cereal in the West and Southwest of Paraná”, highlights Dilvo Grolli.
