Basf will reinforce the relevance of preventive phytosanitary management of corn and soybean crops during the Field Day organized by C.Vale Cooperativa Agroindustrial. For the first time at the event, Basf presents its complete portfolio of agricultural solutions, which includes soybean seeds Credenz and the licensing mark SoyTech. The fair, organized by C.Vale Cooperativa Agroindustrial, takes place between the 15th and 17th of January, in the city of Palotina, in the western region of Paraná.

According to data presented by the Antirust Consortium, Paraná leads the occurrences of Asian rust in the 2018/2019 harvest, with more than 50 cases. The Palotina region also recorded an incidence of the disease this harvest. “We know that if Asian rust management is not carried out correctly, the disease can cause a reduction of up to 80% in soybean productivity. It is essential that the farmer is efficient in controlling crop diseases and pests by carrying out constant monitoring to increase productivity rates and ensure the longevity of the business”, observes Helio Cabral, Soy Marketing Manager at Basf.

For the C.Vale Field Day, visitors will be able to obtain information about the fungicide Versatilis, whose application is carried out together with the Status, fungicide with multisite action. According to research carried out on more than 25 thousand hectares, the use of these products in conjunction with other Basf solutions resulted in an increase in productivity of two bags of soybeans per hectare (2016/2017 harvest).

safrinha

With the soybean harvest approaching its final phase in the region, farmers are beginning preparations for growing a second crop – also known as safrinha. Helio Cabral reminds us that it is necessary to wait for the soybean crop to completely dry out before finishing the harvest. “This process is extremely strategic to ensure good results in grain quantity and quality. It is often necessary to accelerate the standardization of drying in the field to take advantage of a better corn planting window”, explains Cabral. For the soybean pre-harvest desiccation process, Basf has the desiccant herbicide Final, which can be used for this purpose, in addition to being an important tool for weed control in pre-planting management of oilseeds.

This year's corn harvest is expected to reach almost 64 million tons, according to an estimate from Conab (National Supply Company). Farmers should be aware of the occurrence of pests, such as fall armyworm and fungi, which can cause diseases such as the so-called “white spot” in corn crops.

“The farmer needs to ensure phytosanitary monitoring and adequate management to increase the profitability of the crop this harvest, since there is a tendency for prices to be not very favorable”, observes Stael Prata Silva Neto, Maize Marketing Manager at Basf. The company has products such as Immunity, an insecticide that combats fall armyworm, and fungicides Orchestra SC e Abacus HC to prevent the emergence of diseases such as “white spot”.
