DuPont Potato Program focuses on production quality
With the purpose of deepening the discussion on the challenge of reconciling food production in a sustainable way for a constantly growing world population, Anda – National Association for the Diffusion of Fertilizers will promote, on August 26th, in São Paulo, the 3rd Brazilian Fertilizers Congress. With the central theme “Nutrients for Life”, the meeting will be opened by the executive director of the Nutrients for Life Foundation, Harriet Wegmeyer, and the president of the International Plant Nutrition Institute, Terry Roberts. Both will address, in their presentations, the need to guarantee healthy soils to meet the growing demand for food, observing the triple bottom line of sustainability: social, environmental and economic.
The speakers will reinforce the message about the need to adequately restore soil nutrients, mainly nitrogen, phosphorus and potassium, a factor they consider essential to guarantee constant productivity gains for global agriculture. Experts will also emphasize the sustainable nature of using fertilizers to grow crops, producing more food in an area that remains practically stabilized. The Nutrients for Life Foundation is an entity that, since 2004, has been researching and publicizing the importance of the role of nutrients in food production and in preserving the environment.
In addition to the Nutrients for Life panel, the Congress will also analyze the prospects for investments in the fertilizer sector in Brazil, with representatives from important companies operating in the sector, in addition to a panel focused on analyzing the supply and demand of fertilizers until 2020, which will be led by Dirk Jan Kennes, global inputs strategist at Rabobank.
In another panel, called Perspectives for Brazilian Agriculture for the Next 5 Years, consultant André Pessoa, managing partner of Agroconsult, will project the behavior of Brazilian agriculture for the period. Following the consultant's talk, there will be a special section to honor, in memory, the metallurgical engineer Luiz Antonio Veiga Mesquita, former president of Anda and Sinprifert, the agricultural engineer José Carlos Alcarde, professor at ESALQ-USP and former coordinator of the Anda Inter-laboratory Program and Agricultural Engineer Edesio Castelassi, former president of Sindiadubos, Siacesp and former vice-president of Ama Brasil.
