The Federation of Rice Growers Associations of Rio Grande do Sul (Federarroz) received, this Wednesday, October 19th, information about a new shipment of rice. This time it is another order for 30 thousand tons of unpeeled cereal for Mexico.

According to the president of Federarroz, Alexandre Velho, this shows that the market is moving. "This shows that demand continues to be strong for Mexico and Central America and another ship with 30 thousand tons of paddy rice has just been confirmed", he highlights. “The preference for exports and the restriction of supply by producers in the domestic market may cause retailers to have greater purchasing interest”, he adds.

Recently on the agenda with the Minister of Agriculture, Marcos Montes, Federarroz requested support from the government to seek a commercial agreement for rice with Mexico, as Uruguay has. To achieve this, Brazil depends on Mexico reducing import taxes and Uruguay has this agreement, while Brazilians are at the mercy of the tax reduction in order to export a greater volume.
