The National Supply Company (Conab) released this week the June edition of the Agricultural Monitoring Bulletin (BMA). The study shows that in the first weeks of the month the rainfall accumulated was greater in the North and South regions, in addition to the eastern and northern regions of the Northeast region. Dry weather prevailed in other areas of the country, which favored the maturation and harvest of second-crop crops.

Also according to the study, a reduction in temperatures was observed throughout Brazil due to the proximity of the winter climate season, in addition to the occurrence of frosts in the states of the South region and part of the Southeast and Central-West regions. However, this did not result in significant damage to second harvest and winter crops.

The document also shows that, in the period under analysis, it is possible to verify low soil humidity mainly in the west and north of Bahia, in the north and northwest of Minas Gerais and center-north of Goiás, in addition to the center-south of Tocantins, south of Maranhão, southwest of Piauí, the east of Mato Grosso, the north of Mato Grosso do Sul and the northwest of São Paulo. This means that crops in reproductive stages were under water restrictions in these regions.

On the other hand, good water availability was observed in the South, Sealba and southern parts of the states of MS and SP, which favored the development of second and third harvest and winter crops. Due to the water surplus, the sowing of winter crops was suspended in some locations in the South region.

Regarding the monitoring of the vegetation index, despite water restrictions, the early sowing of corn in the second harvest allowed crops to develop in a similar way or better than the last harvests in most of the monitored regions.

Currently, the vegetation index is falling in the main second-crop corn producing regions, due to the maturation of crops. In the main regions producing winter crops, low values of the vegetation index predominate, demonstrating the beginning of sowing. In general, expectations of good productivity persist.

BMA - is the result of a partnership between Conab, the National Institute of Meteorology (Inmet) and the Global Agriculture Monitoring Group (Glam). The study provides information on agrometeorological conditions and the interpretation of crop behavior in satellite images and in the field. This information serves as input for making harvest estimates made by the Company every month.
