Brazilian grain production in the 2024/25 harvest is expected to reach 336,1 million tons. The volume represents a historic record and indicates growth of 13% compared to the previous season. The data is included in the 9th Survey of the 2024/25 Grain Harvest, released this Thursday (12) by the National Supply Company (Conab).
The estimate indicates an increase of 38,6 million tons. According to Conab, the good performance is due to the combination of average productivity of 4.108 kilos per hectare and a 2,3% expansion of the planted area, which reaches 81,8 million hectares.
Corn, the main crop of the second harvest, is expected to reach a total production of 128,3 million tons. In this cycle alone, the expectation is to harvest 101 million tons, an increase of 12,2% compared to the same period of the last harvest. Work has already begun in Mato Grosso, Mato Grosso do Sul, Minas Gerais, Tocantins, Maranhão and Paraná. The harvest is progressing, benefiting from the favorable climate and the appropriate management adopted in the fields.
In cotton, 1,4% of the planted area has already been harvested. Cotton production is expected to total 3,9 million tons, an increase of 5,7% over the 2023/24 harvest. The result is due to a 7,1% increase in the cultivated area, despite lower productivity caused by irregular rainfall.
Total bean production is expected to reach 3,17 million tons, a volume sufficient to supply the domestic market. The first crop has already been harvested, with 1,1 million tons. The second crop, in the maturation and harvest phase in states such as Paraná and Minas Gerais, is progressing with 98% and 74% of the areas harvested, respectively, by May 31. The third crop is being planted.
For rice, the harvest, which is practically over, indicates production of 12,15 million tons, an increase of 14,9%. The performance was driven by the expansion of the planted area and favorable weather, mainly in Rio Grande do Sul.
Soybean production reached a record 169,6 million tons. The increase of 21,9 million tons over the 2023/24 cycle is due to the intensive use of technologies and good weather conditions in important producing regions.
Among winter crops, wheat stands out. Sowing reaches 42% of the planned area. In Paraná, planting reaches 72%, within the historical average. In Rio Grande do Sul, the rate reaches 8%, hampered by frequent rains and short windows of dry weather.
