Grain production in Brazil is expected to reach a new record in the 2024/25 harvest. The estimate by the National Supply Company (Conab) points to 332,9 million tons, an increase of 35,4 million over the previous cycle. The data is part of the 8th Grain Harvest Survey, released this Thursday (15/5).
The cultivated area is expected to reach 81,7 million hectares, an increase of 2,2%. Average productivity is also expected to recover, with an increase of 9,5% and an average of 4.074 kilos per hectare.
Soybeans are leading the way with a forecast of 168,3 million tons, the largest volume ever recorded in the country. The harvest has already reached 98,5% of the planted area. In the states of the Central-West, Southeast, Paraná and Tocantins, work has been completed. Minas Gerais, São Paulo, Goiás, Mato Grosso, Bahia, Rondônia and Tocantins recorded historic yields, driven by favorable weather and the high technical level of producers.
Corn is expected to reach 126,9 million tons, an increase of 9,9%. The 1st harvest accounts for 24,7 million, with 77,6% of the area harvested. The 2nd harvest, with planting completed, is expected to yield 99,8 million tons. The crops are evolving well, with flowering and grain filling predominating.
In rice, expected production is 12,1 million tons, an increase of 14,8%. The cultivated area reached 1,7 million hectares, with an average productivity of 7.071 kilos per hectare, an increase of 7,4%.
Beans are expected to reach 3,2 million tons in the three harvests. The volume ensures supply to the domestic market, according to Conab.
Cotton, with planting completed, occupies 2,1 million hectares, 7,2% more than in the previous season. The expected production is 3,9 million tons of cotton, an increase of 5,5%. Favorable weather allows good development of crops, which continue from flowering to the beginning of harvest.
In winter crops, wheat is beginning to be sown in the Central-West, Southeast and Paraná, where 26% of the expected area has already been planted. In Rio Grande do Sul, planting has not yet begun. The estimated production is 8,3 million tons, an increase of 4,6%.
