Considering soybean data, 22% of the national amount was shipped through the ports of Arco Norte, from January to October/37,7, compared to 32,6% in the same period of the previous year. Next, the port of Santos handled 33,6% of the national supply compared to 27,2% in the same period last year. Paranaguá continued to ship 12,8% of exports compared to 14,2% in the previous year, while the port of Rio Grande shipped 6,5% compared to 14,6% in the previous year.

The origin of cargo for export in October occurred, primarily, in the states of Mato Grosso, Goiás, Minas Gerais, Paraná and São Paulo. The analyzes are from the Logistics Bulletin of the National Supply Company (Conab), released this week.

According to the study, for corn, the ports of Arco Norte presented, in the accumulated until October/22, 45,5% of national movement compared to 48,1% in the same period of the previous year. Next, the port of Santos appears to be transporting, in the same period, 35,4% of the total movement compared to 39% in the previous year, while the port of Paranaguá recorded 12,4% of the volumes shipped compared to 5,5% in the same period. of the past year.

The strong pace of Brazilian corn exports has been driven by excellent international prices throughout the season, despite recent expectations, which point to greater slack in global supply and demand. Internally, the upward movement was limited by resistance from buyers, particularly producers of inputs for the animal protein production segment, who preferred to use their stocks, also keeping an eye on international demand.

Estimates released by Conab in November pointed to an estimated first harvest area of 22,3 million hectares, with an expected production of 126,3 million tons, an increase of 12% in relation to what occurred in the last harvest. Regarding corn, the third harvest of the 2021/22 season, mainly produced in the Sealba region, the harvest is at the beginning of the harvest, with the peak of the operation expected to occur in November.

In some areas, cultivation is primarily for subsistence and feeding small herds on properties, despite crops already emerging in the region with high use of technology and mechanization. In this productive environment, despite the lack of warehouses, Sealba has very favorable logistics, with important highways directed towards the Northeast, a natural outlet for surplus production.

Shipping

In Mato Grosso, freight prices in October fluctuated without major impacts. The demonstrations that occurred in the post-election period did not affect the flow, since the state is in the middle of the off-season. In Mato Grosso do Sul, prices for grain transport showed a reduction in the various areas monitored. Even with the strong demand for second harvest corn, which guaranteed significant levels of movement, freight prices remained under pressure due to the greater supply of vehicles.

In the state of Goiás, following the decrease in demand, freight values showed stability in the places of origin, such as Rio Verde and Catalão, and a reduction in Cristalina and Bom Jesus de Goiás. In the Federal District, the small variation in freight rates is explained by the strong reduction in sales levels observed, due to the off-season or observation of the supply and demand situation with possible effects on prices. For Paraná, the low sales of soybeans in the period between July and October also had an impact on the demand for freight, which remained reduced or even non-existent. The state of Piauí followed the trend and recorded a significant drop in October, contrary to the expectations of freight companies in the region. In Bahia, cargo transport values showed positive and negative variations, signaling the effect of demand for transport and the supply of services depending on the producing region.

The Conab Logistics Bulletin is a monthly periodical that contains data collected in the states of Mato Grosso, Mato Grosso do Sul, Goiás, Distrito Federal, Paraná, Bahia and Piauí. The study shows logistical aspects of the agricultural sector, the position of exports of major agricultural products in Brazil, analysis of the flow of cargo movement and a survey of the main routes used to transport the harvest.
