The National Supply Company (Conab) carried out 793 visits to public and private warehouses in 2016, with the aim of inspecting government stocks. In total, 5,87 million tons of different products were inspected.

During the year, nine regular inspection stages were carried out on public stocks of rice, corn, beans, coffee, wheat, flour and cassava starch. Conab inspectors checked, among other things, the storage and conservation conditions and the quantity of stocks stored.

Natural losses of 3,9 thousand tons of products were identified, deviations of 65,76 thousand t and 1,36 thousand tons outside the standard. 127,3 tons of coffee, cassava flour and beans were also disqualified due to loss of quality.

In all cases, the responsible storers will have to return the initial stock in product or cash, in accordance with the zero-loss contract signed between the parties. Furthermore, the storage company is unable to operate with the Company for two years. Deviations are reported to the Public Ministry and the Federal Police.

Over-the-Counter Sales - In addition to public stocks, Conab inspectors inspected the operations of the Over-the-Counter Sales Program. 549 small breeders from 21 Brazilian states were inspected. The 80 inspectors checked the beneficiaries' breeding stock and verified the correct use of corn purchased through the Program, which offers products from public stocks at prices compatible with local wholesale markets.
