The National Supply Company (Conab) is opening the 2020/21 Grain Harvest this Friday (16), in Campo Grande, Mato Grosso do Sul, and announces new features in its surveys.

The methodology that results in grain estimates now has new data collection fronts and also improvements in statistical analyses. Conab technicians will also record field information directly on tablets, with simultaneous sending (wherever there is an internet connection) to the Company's bases.

Another novelty is the work to also estimate livestock products. The cattle, chicken, pig, goat, sheep, dairy and egg sectors will also soon have Conab estimates.

The Company is also innovating in the survey of prices for agricultural products and inputs, which now rely on information from electronic invoices, obtained from the Federal Revenue Service. The data processing and analysis methodology is already under development.

“Brazilian agricultural production supplies our population and generates a surplus that contributes to the food security of many countries. It is necessary to offer the entire sector accurate information and, in this sense, we have systematically invested in improving our numbers and analyses”, explains the president of Conab, Guilherme Soria Bastos Filho.

The presentation in Campo Grande includes the participation of Conab's Administrative, Financial and Inspection director, José Ferreira da Costa Neto, the Company's Regional superintendent in Mato Grosso do Sul, Nilson Marques, and the state-owned company's Agribusiness Information superintendent, Cleverton Santana.

This is the first of five scheduled events, one in each macro-region of the country. On Monday, it will be in Belo Horizonte. Until the beginning of November, it will also take place in Recife/PE, Belém/PA, Teresina/PI and Porto Alegre/RS.

More information

In the 2019/20 season, the Company launched its own version of the crop tour and applied it to soybeans. More than 1 samples were collected during the grain filling phase, and this information was incorporated into productivity adjustments. Now, this form of survey will be carried out for second harvest corn and coffee, with all records being made directly in the system developed by Conab and delivered on tablets to its 80 field professionals.

In addition, mapping with satellite images is planned for soybeans cultivated in 2020, for second-crop corn to be planted next year and for pasture areas in 2022.

So that sectors can take advantage of Conab data more quickly, starting November 3, weekly information will be published focused on monitoring the planting and harvesting of soybean, corn, rice, beans, wheat and cotton crops.
