The Cotton Boll Weevil Prevention, Monitoring and Population Control Project in Goiás (Bicudo Project) presents a comparative study of the zoning of farms in the 2014/2015, 2015/2016, 2016/2017, 2017/2018, 2018/2019 and 2019 harvests /2020.

The data was extracted from property visit reports and the Bicudo Project Software. They point out changes in the presence of the pest in crops in categories that vary depending on the insect population in the plots.

The history series points to a gradual drop in the presence of the insect in crops. However, the 2018-2019 harvest showed exponential growth in the boll weevil population, which required greater monitoring and attention from producers and the Project. Since then, they have managed to flatten the growth curve in the last harvest, with the aim of subsequently reducing the pest.

This comparison is of enormous importance for the producer, individually, as it allows him to access the results of his monitoring and control management of this pest that affects cotton. These results make it possible for the producer to analyze the successes of his management and to correct any actions that could still improve.

The comparison also brings a great contribution to cotton farmers, collectively, in terms of information that can assess the presence of the boll weevil in the main cotton growing regions of Goiás, what changes have occurred, where the work has proven to be more effective and the that still needs to be done. It also allows feedback to evaluate the work carried out and allows the Bicudo Project team to have the necessary information for increasingly efficient planning of the work that must be done.

In this way, the Bicudo Project establishes itself as an important ally of cotton farming, helping producers to reduce farming costs, avoiding productivity losses.
