The federal government reinstituted the National Executive Committee of the Sectorial Plan for the Consolidation of a Low-Carbon Economy in Agriculture (CENABC), with the Decree No. 10.431, published in the Official Gazette of the Union on Tuesday, July 21st.
CENABC, made up of representatives from various bodies, has as its central function monitoring the implementation, monitoring and evaluation of the Sectoral Plan for Mitigation and Adaptation to Climate Change for the Consolidation of a Low Carbon Emission Economy in Agriculture (Plan ABC).
The ABC Plan is concluding its first decade of implementation (2010-2020), and is currently in the midst of a review process, evaluating the results already achieved and discussing an action proposal for the period 2021-2030. In this sense, the reactivation of CENABC will allow this collegial body to monitor and evaluate the results achieved to date by the ABC Plan, with the promotion of agricultural production systems that are resilient, productive, competitive and adapted to climate change.
The construction of the 2021-2030 ABC Plan proposal will also be a subject of discussion at CENABC, supporting the Map in strengthening the sustainability of the Brazilian agricultural sector, specifically, with regard to issues related to tackling climate change by the Brazilian agricultural sector.
CENABC is made up of representatives from the Ministries of Agriculture, Economy, Science, Technology and Innovations; of the Environment; in addition to Embrapa; from Banco do Brasil, BNDES, CNA of the National Council of State Secretaries of Agriculture and the Brazilian Forum on Climate Change. The appointed representatives must have technical competence or notable performance in matters related to the ABC Plan.
The Commission should have its first meeting in the next few days, and will meet on a semi-annual basis. According to the agenda to be discussed, it may invite representatives of public and private bodies and entities and specialists in the area of expertise to participate in its meetings, without voting rights.
