The arrival of spring 2025, which begins on September 22 at 15:19 p.m. (Brasília time), will bring significant changes to weather conditions across much of Brazil. According to the National Institute of Meteorology (Inmet), between Saturday (September 20) and Wednesday (September 9), an intense cold front will advance over the South, Southeast, and parts of the Central-West and North regions, triggering thunderstorms. Following this, a cold, dry air mass will cause a sharp drop in temperatures, with frost forecast in the South and cold snaps in the North.

Initially, the storms are expected to hit areas of Rio Grande do Sul. On Sunday (21/9), with the advance of the cold front, areas of instability will spread throughout the Southern Region and also reach areas of Mato Grosso do Sul, potentially reaching the extreme south and southwest of São Paulo later in the day.

On Monday (22/9), the cold front is expected to reach the Southeast, also advancing through the states of the Central-West, where it will cause storms and could reach the southwest of the Amazon.

In the South, the storms on Saturday and Sunday (the 20th and 21st) could be severe, with lightning and gusty winds. Hail and significant rainfall are also possible, especially in Rio Grande do Sul and Santa Catarina.

Starting Monday, the cold will become more pronounced in Rio Grande do Sul, with significant temperature drops. As the cold air mass moves throughout the week (22nd to 24th), temperatures will also drop in other areas of the Center-South and even the North, where the phenomenon is known as friagem.
