The northwest of Rio Grande do Sul was placed on alert for heavy rains this Monday (19), with more intensity between the afternoon and evening of today and the early hours of tomorrow (20). The instabilities are due to the passage of a frontal system that has been advancing since the weekend.
The forecast indicates rainfall volumes that could reach 100 mm, accompanied by wind gusts of around 100 km/h, according to the orange (danger) warning issued by the National Institute of Meteorology (Inmet).
The areas most affected by these instabilities are the municipalities of the Missões Region, such as Ijuí, São Borja, Santo Ângelo and Santiago. Over the weekend, these areas recorded storms, such as São Borja, which recorded 46,0 mm in volume until 8 am today (19).
The rains will also be persistent in other areas of Rio Grande do Sul from the end of the afternoon this Monday, but with a lesser degree of severity, such as in the southeast of the state and in the mountainous region.
With two yellow warnings (potential danger), the volume could vary between 30 mm and 50 mm, reaching cities such as Bagé, Pelotas, Uruguaiana, Dom Pedrito, Caxias do Sul, Erechim, Três Cachoeiras and Arroio do Sul. The rains could be accompanied by wind gusts of up to 60 km/h and should also reach the south of Santa Catarina.
