Coffee exports in September 2020 break historic record

Export volume of 3,8 million 60kg bags is the highest ever recorded in the month of September

Brazilian Coffee exports in September 2020 reached the highest volume ever recorded for the month, in total 3,8 million 60kg bags were exported, including green, soluble and roasted & ground coffee, a number that represented an increase of 8,6 .2019% compared to September 74,8. Arabica coffee had a 77,9% share in exports in the current calendar year, with 23,8 million bags. Conilon coffee was responsible for 12,2% of the volume exported, reaching 3,7 million bags, which represented an increase of 22,3% compared to the same period in the previous calendar year. With 3 million bags, soluble coffee corresponded to 9,8% of shipments.

It is worth highlighting, according to data released by Cecafé, in the Monthly report September 2020, the top ten destinations for Brazilian Coffee exports, in the first nine months of 2020, in a ranking in descending order. In first place is the United States, which imported 5,6 million bags of coffee, which corresponds to 18,5% of the total sold in the period; then comes Germany, with 5,1 million bags imported (16,9%); Belgium, in third, with 2,4 million bags (7,8%); Italy, next, with 2,3 million bags (7,4%); and Japan, in fifth place, with 1,5 million bags (5,1%).

Next, in sixth place, comes Turkey, with 960,8 thousand bags (3,2%); Russian Federation, in seventh, with 940,5 thousand bags (3,1%); Mexico – eighth – with 782,2 thousand bags (2,6%); Spain, ninth place, with 700 thousand bags (2,3%); and, finally, Canada, in tenth place, with imports of 624,2 thousand bags, a physical volume that corresponds to 2% of Brazilian Coffee exports in the period in question. In this context, it is worth highlighting the fact that the Russian Federation, Mexico and Belgium showed an increase in purchases of Brazilian coffee in this period of around 19%.

This volume represented 16,8% of the total exports of Cafés do Brasil in the year, generating foreign exchange revenue of US$ 834,6 million, equivalent to 21,6% of all foreign exchange revenue generated with Brazilian coffee exports in the current civil year.
