RS 2024/25 Harvest: wet weather delays winter planting
Excessive rains affect the schedule of wheat, barley and white oat crops
Brazilian coffee exports totaled 2,963 million 60-kg bags in May 2025, a drop of 33,3% compared to the same month last year. Despite this, foreign exchange revenue grew 21,1%, reaching US$ 1,243 billion, according to data from Cecafé.
In the year to date, between January and May, the country exported 16,79 million bags — a 19,2% drop. Even so, revenue rose 44,3% in the period, reaching US$ 6,483 billion, the highest value in the historical series for the first five months of the year.
According to Cecafé president Márcio Ferreira, the reduction in the volume shipped is due to the lower availability of Arabica, whose harvest only began in June, and the loss of competitiveness of Conilon compared to origins such as Vietnam and Indonesia. The growth in revenue reflects high prices on the international market, driven by five consecutive harvests affected by extreme weather conditions.
Among the main destinations for Brazilian coffee in 2025 are the United States (2,87 million bags), Germany (2,11 million), Italy (1,37 million), Japan (1,08 million) and Belgium (809 thousand). The Port of Santos leads exports, with 80,8% of the total.
Specialty coffees, with sustainability or superior quality certificates, represented 22,1% of shipments, with 3,7 million bags and revenue of US$ 1,63 billion — a 70,5% increase in revenue compared to the previous year.
