The Brazilian Agriculture and Livestock Confederation (CNA) participated in a meeting of the Sectoral Chamber of the Fruit Production Chain, on Thursday (02/03), in Brasília, to discuss the opening of new export markets for the sector.
Meeting participants spoke about the progress of the process of opening markets for the sector, such as apples for Thailand, Indonesia and the Philippines, avocados and avocados for Japan.
“The opening of new markets enables the expansion of national production, linked to the improvement in the quality of the national product, and the socioeconomic development of the producing regions, generating new jobs and foreign exchange for the country”, highlighted CNA technical analyst, Letícia Fonseca.
In recent years, numerous markets have been opened, such as for apples in countries such as Guatemala, Colombia, Nicaragua, Senegal and Honduras; for avocado in Argentina; for lemon in Chile; for ginger in Egypt; and for chestnuts in Saudi Arabia and South Korea.
The meeting also discussed updating the legislation for exporting papaya to the North American market, the National Fruit Production Development Plan, and the need to generate and monitor national production data, as a way of defending the national productive potential, promotion of private investments and development of public policies.
Brazil is the third largest fruit producer, but still represents a small portion of the foreign market, with less than 1% of the global fruit market in 2021.
In recent years, national fruit growing has been improving, with innovative techniques and always seeking greater product quality and safety, which has brought good results in the national and global market.
