Agribusiness was the sector with the best performance in generating formal jobs both in June and in the first half of 2020. Last month, the sector had a positive balance of 36,8 thousand jobs, and in the first half of the year there were 62,6 thousand new vacancies.

This is what the Technical Communication from the Brazilian Agriculture and Livestock Confederation (CNA) shows, based on the latest data from the new General Register of Employed and Unemployed People (Caged) released by the Ministry of Economy.

General employment data show a negative balance both in June (-10,9 thousand) and in the semester (-1,2 million). In terms of monthly behavior, only agriculture and civil construction hired more than they fired. Over the past six months, only the field has generated new jobs.

Of the 36,8 thousand jobs created by agriculture in June, permanent crops generated 14,1 thousand new jobs, with emphasis on oranges, coffee and grapes. Temporary crops had a positive balance of 10,6 thousand formal jobs, where soybean production led the hiring of labor.

Activities to support agriculture (9,8 thousand), cattle breeding (1,2 thousand) and poultry (792) also helped to generate new jobs.

São Paulo was the state with the highest number of new jobs (23 thousand), where oranges, coffee and soy stood out. Next come Mato Grosso, with more than 3 thousand jobs, mainly in soybean and cotton crops, and Minas Gerais, with more than 2 thousand jobs, the majority of which are in coffee farming.
