The Brazilian Agriculture and Livestock Confederation (CNA) carried out another round of the Campo Futuro project to survey production costs in grain panels, coffee, beef cattle, swine and aquaculture, carried out in Paraná, Minas Gerais, Mato Grosso and Bahia. The meetings were attended by state federations, rural unions, universities and research institutions.

Grains and cotton

In terms of grains, the first panel took place in Castro (PR) to gather information on soybeans, corn, beans and wheat. The 2021/2022 summer harvest had a better climate scenario than other regions in the south of the country. Productivities for the four crops closed at 70, 193, 40 and 63 bags per hectare on average, respectively.

For soybeans, corn and beans, the costs of pesticides rose 44%, 88% and 46% compared to the last harvest, respectively. Oilseeds had an increase of 275% for the herbicide group, while corn had an increase of 144%. For insecticides, increases of 208% and 201% were observed for corn and beans. Regarding fertilizers, disbursements increased by 70% for corn, 64% for beans and 40% for wheat.

In Barreiras (BA), the survey of production costs was for cotton. The technologies cultivated in the 2021/22 harvest were GL, GLTP and B2RF. The rainy period at the beginning of the crop cycle and the lack of rain during development frustrated the harvest expectations of cotton farmers who harvested 106, 113 and 108 arrobas of lint per hectare for the three technologies, respectively.

Producers also reported record input prices during the period. For fertilizers and fungicides, the increases were 50% and 65% in relation to the previous harvest.

Coffee

Coffee production cost surveys were carried out in Itabela (BA), Poço Fundo (MG) and Manhumirim (MG). On Monday (26), the panel gathered information about organic Arabica coffee production in Poço Fundo. The modal property was characterized with 4 hectares of productive area, non-irrigated cultivation and manual management.

Due to adverse weather conditions, average productivity was reduced from 25 bags to 20 bags per hectare. Compared to the cost survey carried out in 2021, disbursements increased by 49% with organic fertilizers, 66% with soil improvers, and 125% with mechanization. Only disbursements for phytosanitary preparations showed a reduction (33%).

On Tuesday (27), it was time to survey production costs for conilon coffee in Itabela and Arabica coffee in Manhumirim. In the municipality of Bahia, the modal property was characterized with 50 hectares of productive area, irrigated cultivation, semi-mechanized management (mechanized cultural treatments and manual harvesting). Compared to the panel carried out in 2021, disbursements increased by 5% for irrigation, 52% for fertilizers, 64% for correctives and 473% for mechanization due to the intensification of the use of machinery. With the greater use of mechanization, disbursements on labor fell by 55%.

Participants participated in the survey of production costs in Arabica coffee cultivation in Manhumirim. The modal property has 5 hectares of productive area, rainfed cultivation and manual driving. In relation to the panel carried out in 2021, the increase in disbursements was 77% for soil improvers, 137% for fertilizers, 147% for labor and 353% for the implementation of a more robust technological package of pesticides.

beef cattle

On the 26th, a survey of calf (calf) production costs took place in Juara (MT) considering a modal property with 636 hectares, 533 hectares of pasture and 400 sows. Mineral supplementation represented the item with the greatest weight in effective operating costs (COE), with 18%, followed by pasture inputs, with 17,1%.

On the same day, a panel was held to survey the production costs of growing and fattening cattle in Pontes e Lacerda, also in Mato Grosso. As a typical property in the region, a farm with a total area of 432 hectares was considered, 342 hectares of which were pastureland, finishing 691 cattle per year. In this system, the acquisition of animals represented 84% of the COE.

To finalize the beef cattle panels in Mato Grosso, on the 28th, the production costs of the cattle in Alta Floresta were surveyed, considering a modal property with a total area of 300 hectares, 222 hectares of pasture and 250 sows. Mineral supplementation represented 37,4% of the COE and labor, 17%.

This Friday (30), an integrated pig farming panel (finishing units) was held in Castro (PR).

Aquaculture

On Wednesday (28), shrimp producers from the Canavieiras region (BA) met at the municipality's rural union, to survey shrimp farming production costs. According to them, the modal production in the region is characterized by the semi-intensive system, whose property has 30 ha of water depth, being divided into 10 nurseries of 3 hectares each. As in other surveys carried out by Campo Futuro for shrimp farming, in relation to production costs, the disbursement on feed was the most significant, followed by administrative expenses and electricity.
