The Campo Futuro Project raised, from Monday (12/09) to Friday (16/09), the production costs of coffee, grains (soy and corn), vegetables (tomato), beef cattle farming, fish farming, forestry (natural rubber ) in the states of Bahia, Espírito Santo, Mato Grosso do Sul, Minas Gerais, Pará and Santa Catarina.
The surveys are carried out by the Brazilian Agriculture and Livestock Confederation (CNA) in partnership with the Center for Advanced Studies in Applied Economics (Cepea), Market Intelligence Center of the Federal University of Lavras (CIM/UFLA), Labor Rural (University Federal de Viçosa - UFV) and Pecege (Esalq/USP).
The initiative has the support of rural producer unions; of the state agriculture federations and the Regional Administrations of Senar.
Grains (Maracaju – MS): Adverse weather impacted the summer harvest in the 21/22 cycle. As the region is located in a transition region (between the South region, where crop failures were observed and the cerrado, which had good productivity). As a result, producers harvested an average of 48 bags of soybeans/hectare. On the other hand, producers harvest a good 2nd harvest. For corn, 100 bags were harvested on average per hectare. Producers reported high incidences of corn leafhoppers during the crop.
Natural Rubber (Ituberá -BA): The modal property has 7 hectares and a productivity of 5.000 kg of latex per hectare/year. The useful life of rubber plantations in the region is around 40 years, with extraction starting in the seventh year.
The activity is largely done manually. The items that weigh the most on the producer's pocket are labor (31%); pro-labore (28%) and administrative costs (23%).
Café Conilon (Rio Bananal - ES): The modal property was characterized with 10 hectares of productive area, irrigated cultivation, semi-mechanized driving. Fertilizer disbursements correspond to 30% of the Effective Operating Cost (COE); labor (25%), pesticides (15%), irrigation (1,8%) and mechanization (1,4%).
Arabica Coffee (Brejetuba - ES): The panel was attended by the president of the Federation of Agriculture and Livestock of Espírito Santo (Faes), Júlio Rocha, coffee growers and technicians from the Capixaba Institute of Research, Technical Assistance and Rural Extension (Incaper).
The modal rural property has 10 hectares of productive area with dry farming, driving and manual harvesting.
Compared to the Campo Futuro panel in 2021, an increase of 18% was recorded in disbursements for soil improvers; 34% increase with labor and 93% with fertilizers.
Disbursements for pesticides fell by 22% as a result of the reduction in the technological package used in the modal.
Beef Livestock (São Félix do Xingu – PA): The objective was to raise the production costs of a modal breeding property (calf production) in the region. A farm with a total area of 1.400 hectares was considered, with 700 hectares of useful area (pasture) and 600 sows.
Labor was the item with the greatest weight in effective operating costs (COE), representing 26,20%, followed by mineral supplementation, with 21,64%.
Table tomato (Barbacena – MG): The region's modal property has two hectares cultivated with an average productivity of 3.000 boxes/hectare and sold in the field. The region's mode is characterized by partnership, or “sharecropper”. The costs of running the crop, which include acquisition of seeds and seedlings, fertilizers, phytosanitary products and others, represent approximately 60% of the Effective Operating Cost (COE).
Fish farming (Massaranduba - SC): Despite the high expenditure on feed, which represents 84% of the Effective Operating Cost, tilapia farming in the region is a financially attractive business. The producer himself conducts the work activities thanks to the good technical indicators obtained, such as the food conversion of 1,5 kg of feed/kg of fish and the average survival of the animals throughout the production cycle of 80%.
