The CNA National Sugarcane Commission addressed, on Tuesday (28/02), the demands for the production chain in 2023 and the prospects for the next harvest.
Participants pointed out some themes that need to receive attention this year, such as improving resources for sugarcane production, especially for small and medium-sized producers, land issues and tax reform.
The president of the commission, Nelson Perez Júnior, highlighted the importance of creating an index aimed at improving the remuneration of rural producers. “We have to think of a solution, such as an index index, to guide prices and offer fairer remuneration for sugarcane producers.”
Furthermore, the commission intends to continue work on priority issues for the sector, such as the search for guarantees and legal security for the participation of independent producers in the revenues generated by Decarbonization Credits (CBios).
Other themes are also being mapped, such as the promotion and competitiveness of biofuels and the promotion of electricity generation using sugarcane waste and rural insurance.
The commission also discussed the harvest projection with the presentation of the technician from the National Supply Company (Conab), Rafael Fogaça. According to him, it is possible to have variations in estimates since the last survey carried out by Conab in November 2022 and published in December.
The main change was in the state of São Paulo, which resumed productivity due to improved weather conditions. The forecast for the end of the harvest is an increase of 25 million tons of sugarcane compared to the previous cycle, which was 578 million. The fourth and final survey will be published on April 19.
Regarding the 2023/2024 harvest, Fogaça said that Conab will start the survey in March and publish the first estimate on April 26th.
