The CNA National Irrigation Commission discussed, this Friday (19/05), the need to build a positive dialogue with society about the importance of water for food security during the 25th National Meeting of Basin Committees (Encob) and the 1st Latin American Water Forum (FLAA).
The events take place in Brazil, in the states of Rio Grande do Norte and Sergipe, in the second half of this year. The idea is to have the participation of the CNA, the Federations and entities in the irrigation sector.
“We need to generate information, occupy these spaces and show that water is important for generating food and that producers preserve and care for this natural resource”, stated the president, David Schmidt.
The Latin American Forum is a preparation for the World Water Forum that will be held in May 2024 in Bali, Indonesia.
“We need to ensure that the topic of water and food security is discussed at the 1st Latin American Water Forum and taken to the 10th World Water Forum”, explained Jordana Girardello, advisor to the Irrigation Commission.
Members also discussed the celebrations of National Irrigated Agriculture Day, on June 15. There will be two days of events, the 15th and 16th, with programs at the Ministry of Integration and Regional Development (MDR) and the CNA. The schedule will be announced soon.
