CNA debates climate impacts on the soybean and corn harvest

The National Commission for Cereals, Fibers and Oilseeds of the Brazilian Agriculture and Livestock Confederation (CNA) held a meeting to address climate impacts on the soybean and corn harvest and evaluate emergency measures to support rural producers.

“This year's crop failure in corn and soybean production is imminent and we need to be united in this challenging time to define measures and strategies to minimize the negative impacts that rural producers may have ahead”, said the president of the Commission, Ricardo Arioli .

During the meeting, the general director of AgResource, Rafael Mandarino, gave an overview of the current situation and projections for this year's soybean and corn harvest. According to him, losses in this harvest will occur, but the biggest concern is the definition of the supply and demand situation. “The challenge is to have this framework and have this stronger and more expressive discussion so that the market understands the situation we are going through,” he said.

Another topic discussed at the meeting was the extension of the soybean planting calendar for the 2023/2024 harvest. Representatives of state federations from the CNA/Senar System participated in the meeting and were able to explain the situations of rural soybean producers in their states, both in relation to the harvest and planting. In general, requests to extend the calendar are being accepted by Mapa in agreement with state bodies.

The president of the Mapa Soy Sector Chamber, André Dobashi, announced that the body plans to bring together not only the Soy Chamber, but also the Corn Chamber, along with all links in the production chain, in Brasília.
