The Brazilian Agriculture and Livestock Confederation (CNA) met with the Ministry of Regional Development, on Thursday (11), to discuss the development of the National Irrigation Information System (SINIR).

SINIR is an instrument of the National Irrigation Policy (Law 12.787/2013) created to provide subsidies for the preparation of irrigation plans; allow the evaluation and classification of Public Irrigation Projects; facilitate the dissemination of practices that lead to project success and support planning for the expansion of irrigated agriculture.

During the meeting, representatives from the Federal University of Lavras (UFLA) presented the system, which is being developed at the request of the Ministries of Agriculture (Mapa) and Regional Development (MDR).

According to the president of the CNA National Irrigation Commission, David Schmidt, one of the points discussed at the meeting was the automatic updating of the system and the possibility of public irrigation perimeters making their accounts directly in SINIR and that it be capable of generating indicators for decision making.

According to CNA's technical advisor, Jordana Girardello, the Decentralized Execution Term (TED) with UFLA ends in May 2023 and the expectation is that SINIR will be hosted by the Ministry of Agriculture until the deadline.

Participating in the MDR meeting were the Irrigation Poles and Project coordinator, Rodrigo Xavier, the Irrigated Agriculture instrument coordinator, Valdir Juswiak and the analyst Paulo Liberato. The director of the Department of Sustainable Production and Irrigation, Fabiana Villa, and the coordinator of Implementation of Irrigated Agriculture Programs, Antônio Leite, were present at MAPA. Representatives of the National Water Agency (ANA), Thiago Fontenelle and Daniel Assumpção, also participated.
