The Brazilian Agriculture and Livestock Confederation (CNA) held, on Tuesday (31), a joint meeting of the National Commissions for Vegetables and Flowers and Fruit Culture to analyze a proposal for an ordinance aimed at Crops with Insufficient Phytosanitary Support (CSFI), also known as minor crops, and for small uses.

The text has been in the public consultation phase since November and establishes guidelines and requirements for the registration of pesticides for CSFIs and small uses, as well as the maximum permitted residue limit.

The president of the CNA National Vegetables and Flowers Commission, Manoel Oliveira, highlighted the importance of the work that the group is carrying out. “Year after year we have seen advances, with the expansion of records and the carrying out of studies focused on minor crops. The work focuses on defending the interests of rural producers and ensuring food safety,” he said.

During the meeting, the committee members carried out a detailed analysis of the text of the draft Joint Ordinance, with the aim of constructing a proposal to be submitted to the public consultation. “The draft brings great advances to the sector, and our objective is to help bring even more clarity to the topic. The text makes the registration of phytosanitary products for CSFIs more attractive, maintaining the necessary rigor to provide security to the producer in the use of the products, and to the final consumer”, highlighted the CNA's technical advisor, Letícia Barony.

Proposal

In November 2022, the Ministry of Agriculture and Livestock (Mapa) published Ordinance No. 691, which submits to public consultation the proposal for a Joint Ordinance with the Brazilian Institute of the Environment and Renewable Natural Resources (Ibama) and the National Agency for Health Surveillance (Anvisa).

The proposal aims to adapt and improve Joint Normative Instruction No. 1/2014 with the aim of expanding the registration of products for CSFI, which can be used as an option in integrated pest management and favor the development of these crops in a safe and efficient way. .
