On July 25th, Climatempo, the country's main private meteorology company, will carry out another live broadcast with climate forecasts for the 2018/2019 harvest. This time, meteorologist João Castro will talk about the effects that the El Niño phenomenon could have on Brazilian agriculture.
Starting at 16:30 pm, on the Agroclima PRO website and Facebook page and on the Agrotalk website, the webinar will provide the latest information on the possibility of El Niño forming from spring onwards.
Characterized by the abnormal warming of the waters of the Pacific Ocean, El Niño causes changes in the distribution of rainfall throughout the world, considerably affecting agriculture. In Brazil, the effects of the phenomenon are excessive rainfall in the South, drought in the Northeast and irregular rainfall in the Center-West. “The chances of El Niño occurring this year are high. Therefore, agricultural planning for the next harvest needs to be carried out taking this into account”, says João, who also warns of the increase in fungal diseases in part of the country.
The El Niño Alert webinar - effects on Brazilian agriculture” is part of a series of meetings organized by Climatempo. Every two weeks the company's meteorologists will debate the main current topics related to weather and climate, always broadcast on their digital channels.
