The previous week presented dry and sunny days, with scattered rains, low air humidity and temperatures with great variation between dawns and afternoons. This climate scenario favored the advancement of the harvest to 85% of the cultivated area in the State. According to the Conjunctural Information, produced and released this Thursday (18/11) by the Planning Management (GPL) of Emater/RS-Ascar, linked to the Secretariat of Agriculture, Livestock and Rural Development (Seapdr), the rest of the cultivated area, 14% are maturing and only 1% are still in grain filling.

In the Emater/RS-Ascar de Bagé region, the dry and windy period was favorable to the loss of moisture in the grains and for the harvest of white oats in the Campaign, which exceeds 20% of the cultivated area. Producers prioritize planting soybeans to the detriment of harvesting mature oat crops (around 40% of the area), considering that the losses due to delay are not significant, compared to the losses to the productive potential of soybeans, when implemented after the second fortnight from November. On the Western Frontier, the harvest was closed.

In the Emater/RS-Ascar region of Santa Rosa, Frederico Westphalen, Soledade and Santa Maria, the canola harvest is closed. In Santa Rosa there was a 19% reduction in the expected average yield, ending up at 1.319 kilos per hectare. Agricultural insurance had 61 communications from Proagro sent to banks so that Emater/RS-Ascar technicians could carry out expertise. In the Frederico Westphalen region, productivity reached 1.200 kilos per hectare, in the 2.700 hectares cultivated during the harvest. In Soledade, the average yield on the 441 cultivated hectares totaled 1.300 kilos per hectare. In the Santa Maria region, the yield was 1.900 kilos per hectare, in the cultivation area of 5.340 hectares.

In the Emater/RS-Ascar administrative regions of Ijuí, Caxias do Sul, Erechim, Soledade and Frederico Westphalen, the barley harvest is technically closed. Barley performed well in the current harvest, with yields that varied between 2.700 and 3.300 kilos per hectare and reached brewing industry specifications. In areas whose grain quality was affected by the intensity of rain at the end of September and beginning of October, the grain was destined for animal feed.

Summer crops

The week marked by dry weather delayed the progress of soil preparation and soybean planting in some regions, and reached 52% of the intention for the 2021-2022 harvest in the State.

Corn sowing progressed slowly due to the decrease in soil humidity and reached 85% in the State. Of these, 69% are in the germination and vegetative development phase, 20% in flowering and 11% in grain filling.

In the Emater/RS-Ascar de Ijuí region, first-crop bean crops show symptoms of water stress, especially those in flowering, which show a marked drop in flowers. Crops in the formation of pods and grains show a reduction in pod growth, but without grain abortion.

In the administrative regions of Emater/RS-Ascar de Bagé and Pelotas, rice producers adjust the management of the last planting areas. On the Western Border, favorable weather conditions allowed planting to be staggered and in accordance with zoning. In Uruguaiana, the entire area of 75 thousand hectares planned for the current harvest was implemented. During the Campaign, irrigation begins in the first rice crops planted in October. In general, the stand is adequate and good for crop development, with water available in the reservoirs for crop needs. In Pelotas, 95% of the intention to plant 175 thousand hectares for the harvest has been sown. It still needs to be completed in Tavares, São Lourenço do Sul, São José do Norte, Santa Vitória do Palmar, Rio Grande, Pedro Osório, Jaguarão, Capão do Leão, Canguçu, Amaral Ferrador and Arroio Grande. The sown crops have a good plant stand, with adequate vegetative development and excellent phytosanitary status.
