​Climate favors cotton production in Bahia

The 2016/2017 harvest will definitely not be negative for Brazilian cotton producers. According to data from the Technical Office for Economic Studies of the Northeast (ETENE), based on surveys by Conab, production should grow 12% this year. One of the most prominent states in the region is Bahia, with a forecast of 295,6 thousand tons.

According to Lidervan Morais, executive director of the Bahian Association of Cotton Producers (Abapa), the main reason for the good expectations is the climate. “The weather conditions ended up greatly favoring our production. It rained at the right times and moments, with well-distributed volumes", he explains.

The expert says that the improvement in productivity is visible. “Compared to the previous one, it is much higher. In the last harvest, farmers were harmed by the lack of rain," he says.

According to Climatempo meteorologist Alexandre Nascimento, dry weather and little rain will predominate over the next 15 days. Weather conditions are favorable for work in the field.
