The use of drones in agriculture can make crop spraying more precise, economical and safe and, due to these benefits, it is becoming a success on farms in several countries. However, it also brings new challenges: as drones have small reservoirs, they need to carry a more concentrated mixture of active ingredients and apply very fine drops to be effective.

That's why, as a global supplier of specialty agricultural chemicals, Clariant launched DropForward: a specialized approach to delivering precision application with adjuvants and co-formulants. The company offers customers Synergen DRT, a drift control agent and biological activator specific for drones, being the first solution resulting from the DropForward concept. Developed at Clariant's high-tech facilities in Germany and under field conditions in Brazil, this high-performance adjuvant allows the application of agricultural pesticides under low-volume spraying conditions via drones.

“Synergen DRT helps control the drift and volatility of fine droplets during application and improves coverage and penetration of active ingredients into leaves, increasing biological performance and making drone spraying more sustainable and environmentally friendly,” said Fabio Caravieri , Director of Marketing, Industrial & Consumer Specialties at Clariant.

Drones were used in several field tests in Brazil, on crops such as coffee, cotton, orange and wheat, spraying at low volume in experimental plots where increased coverage and deposition was observed with the addition of Synergen DRT in the application tank, resulting in greater product efficiency. This new adjuvant technology has shown that with small doses, robust performance in drift control is obtained, even when used with mixtures of products, highlighting the greater effectiveness of herbicides in desiccating weeds.

“Precision agriculture, with increasingly data-driven decision-making, is the future and drones will play an important role in this. It is already used in the application of fertilizers due to the significantly greater savings potential and it is expected that the next big wave will be with agricultural pesticides. Synergen DRT is a next-generation adjuvant that is accelerating innovation and helping to position our customers at the forefront of a sustainable world,” said Christian Vang, Director of Industrial & Consumer Specialties.

Synergen DRT is available from March 15th worldwide.
