Farmer João Carlos da Cruz, from Buri (SP), is the new champion of the Maximum Soy Productivity Challenge, carried out by the Brazilian Soy Strategic Committee (CESB). When registering for the Challenge, he presented an area of 10 hectares that had a productivity of 120,07 bags per hectare, more than double what Brazil achieves on average annually. The announcement of the ranking took place this Wednesday (29), during the National Forum for Maximum Soy Productivity, held at Cocamar's headquarters, in Maringá (PR).

By just a few bags, last year's national winner, Alisson Alceu Hilgenberg, from Ponta Grossa (PR), did not maintain the top of the ranking. This harvest came in second place, with a harvest of 114,85 bags per hectare, almost 27 bags less than the productivity of the previous Challenge, due to the adverse weather conditions in the region, when it reached the highest mark ever recorded by CESB.

According to the Committee, which received applications from 4.400 areas across all regions of the country and carried out 208 audits to arrive at the published ranking, the less pronounced productivity was due to the climate. “Once again the climate abruptly challenged Brazilian farmers. Those in Mato Grosso, Mato Grosso do Sul, Bahia and Rio Grande do Sul had their productivity compromised. Even so, today we reward soybean farmers from the Federal District, Mato Grosso and Rio Grande do Sul, all with harvests that exceed 100 bags per hectare", highlights the president of CESB, Luiz Nery Ribas.

The highest soybean productivity in the Central-West region was recorded in Campo de Júlio (MT), on the property of Elton Zanella, responsible for the third highest productivity in Brazil, in the non-irrigated category. There were 100,63 bags per hectare. The North/Northeast champion had a productivity of 82,79 bags, in the city of Correntina (BA), represented by rural producer, Rui Luiz Gaio.

The national champion in the irrigated category is from the Federal District, in the Planaltina region. Flávio Luiz Agnes achieved productivity of 109,24 bags per hectare. “Our objective is to show that there are sustainable ways to produce more with the same area. Only in this way will we be able to achieve productivity that meets the ever-increasing need for food, which Brazil so desperately craves, and also share techniques that work in different regions", concludes the president of CESB, when justifying the Maximum Soy Productivity Challenge.
