Strategic Action

Brazil has recently experienced many adverse weather conditions, such as a lack of rain and an excess of it, which directly interfered with the production process. Concerned about this scenario, the Brazilian Soy Strategic Committee (CESB) extended registrations for the renowned National Challenge for Maximum Soy Productivity.

With the change, soybean farmers and consultants will have until February 15th to access the address https://www.cesbrasil.org.br/desafio-da-soja/ and guarantee participation in the initiative, which aims to challenge producers and consultants to use agricultural practices that contribute to sustainable, profitable, healthy and solid production.

Depending on the rules imposed by the LGPD, all participants must renew their registrations with CESB. Renewing the registration will contribute to better control over the sending of technical reports and certificates issued by CESB and to greater information security, both for the participants themselves and for the entity.

Two News

A 14th Edition will bring two major new features: 1) increase in the expected productivity level for participants from 90 to 95sc/ha; and 2) creation of a new North region, resulting from the separation of the North and Northeast Regions, so that each region has its due and deserved prominence in the Challenge. Therefore, from the 21/22 Harvest, the Challenge will have five prominent regions within the Dryland Category.

Leonardo Sologuren, president of CESB, explains that, traditionally, the Committee established a “productivity rule” at around 90sc/ha. Until then, if the expected harvest was above 90 bags/ha (5400 kg/ha), the producer should call the official CESB audit to monitor the harvest and request an audit. “Now, in this new edition of the Challenge, the level will rise to 95sc / ha,” he says.

The change is a reflection of the excellent performance of the CESB Challenge and national soybean farming as a whole over recent years. In the last edition, the winners were well above the national production average for the crop, estimated at 58,3sc/ha by the National Supply Company (Conab). For example, the champion producer of the South region, Ernest Milla (in memoriam) - Condomínio Milla, from the Fundo Grande property, in Pinhão (PR), recorded 129,16sc/ha, also becoming a national winner. In the Irrigated category, Silvio Langreberto Maluta, from Fazenda Fratelli, in Itapeva (SP), came in first place, with 121,29sc/ha.

The president of CESB believes that the change could bring even more positive numbers both for national soybean farming and for the Challenge, which in its 13th edition recorded a record number of entries – 6 thousand in total, a growth of approximately 15% compared to to the previous edition. “The decision to increase the productivity level is a way for CESB to monitor the high performance of Brazilian soybean farmers”, he states.

More practically, the change implies that the cost of auditing for productions above 95sc/ha is the responsibility of CESB, while in cases where productivity is less than 95sc/ha, the cost is the responsibility of whoever triggered the audit. , being the producer or consultant. “For this reason, we emphasize the importance of sampling and certifying that productivity is above 95sc/ha”, points out Leonardo Sologuren.

New category

Another important change in the 14th Edition of CESB's National Maximum Productivity Challenge is the splitting of the Dryland Champion - North and Northeast categories into the Northern Dryland Champion and Northeast Dryland Champion categories, respectively. According to Sologuren, the idea is to give due emphasis to producers in each region, especially in the North, since the growth of soybean farming in Brazil was due to the development of producers in these less traditional areas. “CESB, fulfilling its role of stimulating a sustainable increase in soybean productivity, understands that the fairest thing would be to dedicate appropriate recognition to producers in these regions”, he explains.

Leonardo Sologuren also remembers that the mission of the CESB Challenge can only be fulfilled with the support of sponsors, who have contributed to the good performance of the Challenge for years. “We thank the companies that already support us and invite new ones interested in contributing to the initiative. Support is essential for the advancement of productivity rates in Brazil”, he concludes. The value is R$100,00 for non-sponsored registrations and 100% free for registrations that indicate one of CESB's sponsors. After completing the CESB Challenge, all participants will receive a report from the audited areas, containing:

  • Georeferencing of the audited area
  • Description of the production field
  • Technical management information
  • Photographic register
  • Additional information (if any…)

In addition to a certificate of participation, with your classification in the CESB Maximum Soy Productivity Challenge.
