Despite the challenges and impacts with the reduction in commodity prices, 2023 was a year of investments for the Capal cooperative. At the headquarters in Arapoti, Paraná alone, more than R$36 million were invested in expansion works this year. And for 2024 new works are already being contracted, which totals an investment of more than R$28,8 million.

According to Capal's executive president, Adilson Roberto Fuga, this year the cooperative will not be able to achieve the same revenue compared to last year. “The price of soybeans and corn fell and we had lower productivity. But we continue to work hard, operate and look for new businesses with investment projects. We always take into account that after moments of crisis come good times. And we are prepared to continue developing agribusiness in the region,” he said.

Investments in Arapoti

Throughout 2023, the headquarters in Arapoti received investments in new raw material silos for feed, in addition to silos and a new dryer for barley. These works alone totaled R$36,3 million invested. The cooperative's industrial park also received improvements such as the construction of new warehouse facilities and new workshops, in addition to the gas station store, which is undergoing modernization.

“We should contract, later this year, for the construction of a seed warehouse and this will improve the structure and storage of fertilizers. The project also includes the construction of a building for classifying cereals. These are investments totaling R$ 28,8 million and the works should begin at the beginning of 2024”, reinforced Adilson.

Another major investment project, according to the president, is the construction of new silos and a new feed factory for Arapoti, which will involve R$78 million in investment. In two years, more than R$100 million will be invested in works in Arapoti.

In addition, the headquarters also had an increase in the number of employees, from 454 to 469.

Achievements

The executive president also recalled the acquisition of three storage companies in the municipality of Piraju (SP) this year. The objective is to expand the capacity to receive coffee production from the state of São Paulo. The three organizations, Piraju Armazéns Ltda, Pro Advanced Ltda and IBL Indústria Luso do Brasil Ltda, together have a 2,4 m² warehouse, with a storage capacity of 55 bags of coffee, in addition to a feed factory and offices.

Negotiations began at the end of 2022 and, in November, Capal definitively took over the facilities. The structure is almost four times larger compared to the Pinhalão (PR) unit, acquired in 2019, and which has a storage capacity for 15 thousand bags of coffee. With the new acquisition, the Cooperative now has 21 units.
