The drought that punishes soybean and corn crops from Rio Grande do Sul to Mato Grosso do Sul will cause C.Vale to increase caution with investments. The cooperative's president, Alfredo Lang, said that the speed of investments could be reduced depending on the impact of the drought on grain production. “We will maintain our direction, industrialization, but we will not take a step too far,” he assured.
In April, C.Vale began earthmoving the area where the soybean crusher will be built, in Palotina. The industry, budgeted at more than R$600 million, is expected to be ready in the second half of 2023. The cooperative will also build a piglet production unit, in Palotina (PR), with a view to supplying integrated producers who will deliver animals to the new slaughterhouse that Frimesa is building in Assis Chateaubriand, also in the west of the state.
When speaking to 300 leaders and family members, at Asfuca de Palotina, on December 15, Lang revealed that, on that day, C.Vale's revenue was R$16 billion. He took stock of the cooperative's performance in 2021, saying that it was a difficult year due to the pandemic, but cited advances such as the incorporation of the Cooatol cooperative, from Toledo (PR), the purchase of a gas receiving unit in Nova Mutum (MT ) and the leasing of three units in Mato Grosso do Sul.
In the meat area, C.Vale, through the company Plusval, leased the Diplomata slaughterhouse, in Capanema (PR), with a slaughter capacity of 143 thousand chickens/day. In Umuarama, Plusval operates a slaughterhouse that slaughters 140 birds/day and is expected to increase processing to 150 chickens/day by May 2022. The industry employs 1.450 workers.
