Bunge entered into a strategic partnership with xFarm Technologies, a technology company specializing in precision agriculture and digital solutions for intelligent farm management. The company joins the ecosystem of partners that Bunge has structured and will continue to expand to support participants in its Regenerative Agriculture Program in Brazil. The move also consolidates Bunge as an important agent for the global acceleration of technologies, solutions and businesses aimed at responding to the challenges of future agriculture.
One of the pillars of the regenerative agriculture project is more efficient management of properties, including analysis of agronomic data, which is why xFarm Technologies solutions are part of a set of tools that Bunge offers free of charge to producers who join its Program. The technology company will provide decision support systems driven by artificial intelligence, fed with data collected by field-installed equipment, such as weather stations and smart sensors, as well as satellite images. The solutions can be easily connected to different technologies and operate in an integrated manner with any other management tools in use on farms. The focus is to make the producer’s day-to-day life easier.
“We believe that a fundamental point of our program is to equip producers and the chain in the transition to low-carbon agriculture. Through the partnership with xFarm Technologies, we combine their expertise in technology and precision agriculture with our in-depth knowledge of grain chains to consolidate a powerful regenerative platform, focused on generating value for producers”, explains Rossano de Angelis Jr, vice president of Bunge Agribusiness for South America. “We will continue working on strengthening and expanding our innovation ecosystem for this purpose while also helping partners who join it to scale their solutions. Our operations around the world give us visibility into what is happening in different markets and the opportunity to contribute to accelerating businesses and technologies on a global scale that converge with our strategies”, he adds.
Founded in Switzerland in 2017 by its CEO Matteo Vanotti, xFarm Technologies is currently Europe's leading independent platform for intelligent farm management solutions. Its applications reach more than 4 million hectares in 100 countries and 50 supply chains.
“At xFarm Technologies, our goal has always been to create a platform that supports farmers in all their activities, helping them increase their efficiency and thus environmental, economic and social sustainability. This is done by offering them innovative tools, such as AI-based solutions applied to agriculture, such as DSS and forecasting models. Making agriculture more sustainable is an extremely important goal for us, and with Bunge we will be able to do this by being your technological partner in the largest regenerative agriculture project in Latin America", says Matteo Vanotti, CEO of xFarm Technologies.
The technology company is a partner with Bunge in a pilot regenerative agriculture initiative in Europe and is now participating in its program in Brazil. Around 50 thousand hectares of areas on Brazilian producers' farms are already being digitized with the solution, also supported by Orígeo. As a technical partner for Bunge's Regenerative Agriculture Program in Brazil, Orígeo assists in the installation of tools, resources and applications with the initiative's participants, maintaining combined assistance with xFarm.
Bunge recently announced the expansion of its program in Brazil, with the intention of covering 600 thousand hectares of areas cultivated with soybeans, corn, wheat and other seeds by 2026. The initiative, based on an integrated strategy, connects the supply of cultivated products with regenerative practices with the demand from food and biofuel companies that have specific sustainability commitments and needs, such as emissions reduction targets for value chains. The program offers a package of benefits to producers, including premium payment, free access to technical assistance and digital and precision tools, as well as support for the use of sustainable inputs.
