BSBIOS and Cooperativa Cotribá formalized a document seeking to establish actions that will directly contribute to the wheat production chain as a supplier of raw materials for the ethanol production project from winter cereals.

Technical Commercial Cooperation aims to jointly establish actions for the multiplication of seeds in the 2023 Harvest and to promote wheat cultivation using commercial varieties from BSBIOS, in the 2024 Harvest.

The president of BSBIOS, Erasmo Carlos Battistella, highlights the importance of partnerships for the development of this new market that is being opened to wheat and triticale producers.

“It is a viable income opportunity for winter cereal cultivation and the results of this partnership will bring direct benefits to the wheat production chain, allowing added value to winter cereals for biofuel production purposes, as well as strengthening the wheat market. and byproducts,” he said.

Cotribá has been a partner with BSBIOS in supplying raw materials since the beginning of the company's project.

“We have always been alongside the entities and our producers in the movement to encourage wheat”, highlighted Celso Krug, president of Cotribá, the oldest cooperative of cereal producers.

“In my 46 years at the helm of this business, we have always purchased all wheat production from the producer and we want to continue and grow on this journey. Our technical professionals are already aware that this is another option and an important path for triticulture in our State”, he assesses.

The State of Rio Grande Sul has, during the winter period, a significant area of crops that remain fallow, without commercial crops. These areas provide a great opportunity for the development of crops, such as wheat and triticale, generating income, diluting fixed costs and allowing crop rotation in these areas.

Crop Development

BSBIOS, in partnership with Biotrigo Genética, licensed two varieties for the production of ethanol and DDGS called BS Etanol and BS Etanol 8. The varieties, as they have high levels of starch, are ideal for the production of biofuel. Remember that the cultivars will enter the market from 2024 onwards.

According to Biotrigo's commercial manager for Latin America, Fernando Michel Wagner, wheat cultivation is at the center of discussions, as it offers several advantages to farmers. “In addition to the agronomic and production system benefits, wheat also offers better sustainability and profitability for the property by expanding production into another period of the year” explains Wagner.

About the BSBIOS Ethanol Production Unit

Planned to operate in Passo Fundo (RS) from the year 2024, with the processing of 750 tons/day of cereals and 1500 tons/day in the second phase, in 2027, the project represents a total investment of R$556 million in the period. The project will represent an increase of R$1,3 billion in annual revenue for the ECB Group and will generate 143 new direct jobs and approximately 1.000 indirect jobs.

The plant will be flexible for the production of anhydrous ethanol (which can be added to gasoline) or hydrated (direct consumption), with a capacity of 111 million liters/year in its first phase and will reach 220 million liters/year, doubling its capacity when fully installed. The unit will also produce 70 thousand tons/year of DDGS, a bran intended for animal feed, in its first phase, and 155 thousand tons/year from 2027.
