The truck blockade in Santa Helena and Guarantã do Norte will be extended by the National Department of Transport Infrastructure (DNIT) until Wednesday (06/03). The rains continue to be intense in the BR-163/PA region and the highway still needs repairs to avoid the formation of new blockages.
Starting Wednesday, in Guarantã do Norte, a mobile scale will be installed to prevent excess loads from trailers and trucks heading to the ports of Pará. Vehicles with loads above the permitted weight will have to remove the excess to continue travel and will be fined.
Although on the Mato Grosso side the highway is already completely paved, BR-163/PA still has sections to be paved. The Ministry of Infrastructure's projection is that by the end of 2019 the paving will be completed with work coordinated between DNIT and the Brazilian Army.
Truck drivers who are stranded in Pará have received assistance from the Army and the distribution of water and food, as well as medical assistance in emergency cases.
